FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this online learning program work? We’d like to encourage staff to take control of their own learning and to utilise their lifelong learning skills through exploration and PLAY. There will be no classes or workshops offered to support this program. Instead, you are encouraged to work together and share with each other your discoveries, techniques and problems, both in person and through your blogs.

Is this program open to all Library staff or just some? Yes, it is open to ALL Library staff regardless of position and status. If you aren’t sure, check with your supervisor(s).

How long do I have to complete the program? This is a 10 week program, beginning Monday, February 2 and ending Friday, April 17.

How do I track my progress for each of the 23 Things? Everyone taking part in the program will have to keep a blog to track their progress and will also need to register their blog so that we can track your progress.

What if I have technical issues? If you have problems with any “Things”, please contact Terri, NicoleSue, or Sally.

Will there be any training classes offered to show us how to do this? No, this is a self-directed program. If you need assistance with an item, you are encouraged to be resourceful and to find a colleague who can help. Reading other 23 thingers’ blogs can help, too.

How will I find the 23 things and how will I know what to do with them? Each week several tasks will be added to the 23 Things blog with details about what they are and what to do. The reason for this gradual approach is to allow you to focus each week on a different area without feeling overwhelmed and also not to rush through all the Things.

What if I need help – who can I call? Since this program is self-directed and is being completed by many people simultaneously, you are encouraged to work with colleagues. If you want to ask questions of the 23 Things team, you can contact us through your blog or leave a comment at the bottom of this page.

I don’t feel comfortable with my colleagues reading my blog, can I participate anonymously? Yes and No. Since you control all the information that you share on your blog, you can choose to use a screen name to keep yourself anonymous. But, of course, if you want a prize, the team will need to know who you are!

Are there any rewards? There will be a celebration for all those who complete the course as well as prizes.

Please check back as new FAQ’s may be added each week. Tips will also be added to help with the Things each week.
